Practical Uses of Directed Acyclic Graphs
Algorithms are a critical part of computer science and behind the scenes they are employed to solve many complex problems. This talk focuses on common graph algorithms— more specifically, directed acyclic graphs (DAGs)… In this talk, Tim Kimmet (VP Platform & Systems, Walmart Global E-Commerce) will focus on the DAG data structure using real code and provide use cases that solve real problems at Walmart.
State of Security Architecture Practices Today
While the specialty field of “Information Security Architecture” is maturing and slowly gaining ground as a recognized specialty, there are still many misconceptions about what it really means. Michelle will present the state of information security architecture today, some of the common misconception about the practice and finally present a consensus outline of what a good security architecture practice entails and what are the key questions that should be asked for every project.

Tim Kimmet is the VP of Platforms and Systems at @WalmartLabs. Prior to that he was a Distinguished Engineer at eBay/PayPal. He is a seasoned technologist with an interest in leading high performance teams towards conceiving and implementing innovative solutions in high-growth environments.
Michelle Guel is a Distinguished IT Engineer, one of 12 in all of Cisco IT and the first only female within Cisco IT. Prior to joining Cisco, Michele spent 11 years at NASA Ames Research Center – initially as a programmer, then a system administrator and software support specialist, and finally as an information and network security professional. In her last role at NASA Ames, she formulated, founded and headed the information security program for the Numerical Aerodynamic Simulation (NAS) Facility.
She joined Cisco in March 1996 as the founding member of Cisco’s internal security team, which is now the Corporate Security Programs Office under John Stewart.
Why are we asking for donations?
CodeChix is seeking non-profit status and we need to raise funds for filing fees. Apart from that, there is great demand for CodeChix T-shirts and we would love to be able to give our loyal attendees 2013 CodeChix T-shirts. So, we are also raising funds for that effort.
If your company would like to sponsor T-shirts, please contact us at organizers@codechix.org.
